Mirabai Discussion

Here's where you get to share your opinions with the rest of the Mirabai community. Let us know your thoughts on any of the issues and topics we've been covering on the site. Or add a new one for all of us to start thinking about. This month we're particularly interested in your opinions on World Music: whether you have an opinion of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the qawwali music tradition or any aspect of World Music you want to talk about. What are some of your favorites? Or just share what's on your mind.

>Please leave the serious thinking to people who think with their brain.

How do you expect your opinion to be taken seriously spouting this kind of condescending ridiculousness? I can see that you have an disfavorable opinion about the price and efficacy of some of Mirabai's products but your patronizing, insulting way of expressing it is petty. You just look like a ranting discontent who feels the need to identify himself as more intelligent and serious then those at Mirabai.

I imagine your political views differ from Marabai's but why so hostile to Maribai expressing theirs? And why would Marabai expressing their disfavorable opinions about President Bush immediately illicit doubts about the shop? Where's the logic in that?

Science and intelligence need not make you so angry!

Of course!

I confess to being a little bit amused by the anonymous diatribe by the elusive "move on" concerning the twin failings of Mirabai of Woodstock; namely, the temerity of wishing to rid this great country of a pernicious President and the even more bizarre belief in energies that might have different properties than those energies currently known within the orders of nature. While I might not purchase a "chakra mala" myself it does not follow that we know all that can possibly be known about potential non-electromagnetic energies. It seems clear that with the advant of membrane theory (a.k.a,. super string theory) we may be faced with the prospect that other things are afoot (in perhaps ten or more dimensions) within the universe than nineteenth century electromagnetic theory has prepared us for. I refuse to claim omniscience concerning the philosophical and empirical foundations of physics. Many people who "think with their brain," and yes, even some of us professors, know that there is a seismic shift taking place within the hard sciences. It is far wiser to take a wait and see attitude concerning the phenomenon of energy than to engage in the tired and intellectually sterile slash and burn method. And yes, I am happy to be counted a fan of Mirabai of Woodstock.

A well-intentioned friend forwarded a copy of your email saying that you were chosen to be a finalist for a MidHudson Valley Choice award. You felt the need to use the opportunity to make a political statement about voting out President Bush. In doing so, you immediately raised doubt in my mind about the credibility of you and your store which I was able to confirm by visiting your website. So, I will be voting for some other store in your category and I will be forwarding your email to my mailing list most of whom will no doubt arrive at the same conclusion.

I looked over some of your products and it's clear that you are not a very critical thinker or, contrary to your supposed spiritual nature, you prey on the emotional weaknesses of others for the sake of making money. For example, your "Double Star Resonator for Negative and Violent Energies" for $50 which "projects a frequency which is calming and non-violent". Can you please explain to me how this works? You throw in a scattering of technical terms, so surely there is a scientific basis for this and those words aren't just to try and lend an appearance of legitimacy to a fraudulent device.

Or how about your Chakra Mala for $69. I would have thought it was just a bracelet of inexpensive beads on a string and been confused by the extremely inflated price, but thanks to your store, I now know it is a powerful talisman which "assists you in achieving illumining vision with whatever issues you are working by clearing and elevating your body's subtle energies."

Perhaps I'm making a mistake by being somewhat sarcastic because it might justify directing your ire at me rather than causing some introspection that might instead lead to your looking in the mirror and asking how you can sleep at night knowing you're misleading and defrauding people.

Please leave the serious thinking to people who think with their brain.

I apologize for not providing my full name and email-- it is not normally my style, but I do not wish to hurt my friend whom I care greatly about despite my inability to steer him or her away from this kind of tripe.
