Accessing the Fairy Realm
A Workshop with author Judika Illes
While fairies are both loved and feared, one thing is certain: throughout history, they have consistently fascinated humans and continue to do so. Many of these wild, independent, powerful spirits seem fascinated by us, too. This workshop is timed so that you can be ready to revel with the fairies when the fairy season--- the time they are particularly active--- begins at Beltane (May Eve). The English word “fairy” shares its roots with the word “fate.” Many fairies are potent fate goddesses, who can perform miracles for devotees if they choose to do so, able to confer gifts of healing, prosperity, wealth, romance, love, fertility, creativity, and more. Over the years, the word “fairy” has evolved into a catch-all umbrella term for numerous spirits who share common interests and characteristics, deriving from all corners of Earth. There are benevolent, helpful fairies --- the proverbial fairy godmothers—but also seductive, dangerous, and temperamental fairies. We’ll discuss numerous ‘fairies’ including but not limited to: Ireland’s Sidhe (Shee) including the dreaded banshee; Mermaid fairies like the Rusalka and the Nixies; Petite flower fairies and devas including the Green Fairy, the wormwood spirit present in Absinthe; Vila from the Balkans, now most famous from their appearances in the Harry Potter novels. We’ll discuss birth fairies and trooping fairies, beautiful fairies and scary fairies. We’ll learn how best to navigate their realms and how to receive their blessings. Learn ways to benefit from their gifts and also how to avoid their ire. We will also discuss plants and animals closely associated with fairies and methods of creating fairy altars and fairy gardens. The class will include a guided visualization into Fairyland (and back out again!)

Cost: $25 if registered and prepaid by Apr. 6th; $30 if registering after the 6th.
